“I have known Avery for the past 6 years as an avid participant in our STEM camps, mentee and employee. Her love of science compelled her to work on experiments and research projects year-round as a private student in a mentorship with me. Over the past 2 years she was recruited as a paid teaching assistant in our STEM programs for young students after school and during the summer.

Avery is intellectually curious, resilient, focused, and tireless. She is competitive, yet gracious. She is polite, a quick study and unflappable. She is polished in her public presentations and articulate in discussions. She is kind and patient with young students, as well as her in interactions with her peers and teachers.

Avery is extremely self-motivated. This propels her through challenges and disappointments as she is driven to achieve her goals. As she continues to add to her fund of knowledge, she uses newfound skills and truths to produce new knowledge for her audience. She asks deep questions, modifies protocols and moves consistently toward making the world a better place through science.

Avery needs the guidance of experts in their fields to continue to satiate her curiosity and add to her skills. She needs to broaden her exposure to creative and dedicated mentors in laboratories and universities. Once the threat of COVID has passed, study abroad would enhance her growth.

Avery has competed in and won awards in numerous science competitions such as the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF), LI Science Congress, (LISC) and Broadcom Masters, over the past 3 years. She also participates in plays and concerts at her school.

As was mentioned, she is a valued and reliable employee of OmniLearn for after-school and summer STEM programs.

Any boarding school would be fortunate to have Avery on campus. Class discussions would be elevated by her contributions and insightful questions. After-school activities will gain a talented and active member. Finally, dorm residents will be pleased to welcome Avery’s kind spirit, loyal friendship and sense of humor.

I enthusiastically recommend Avery for admission to your institution.”

“Avery has been one of the best students I have taught in my ten years teaching career. Avery’s passion for Chinese began the first moment she stepped into my classroom in fifth grade. Throughout her time at Middle school, Avery has displayed a passion and devotion for Chinese unseen by any of her peers. For instance, Avery spearheaded the performance of Houyi and Chang’e in her sixth-grade class for the Mid-Autumn Festival; she organized the group, directed their actions, and delivered upon her role as Chang’e in a vivid and inspiring way. Furthermore, Avery filmed the video blog “My Day,” in which she showcased her daily activities in Chinese with outstanding language fluency. Younger students who watch this video are inspired to create their own version and strive for the standard that she set. Avery is an excellent role model in the classroom, as her enthusiasm for learning is constantly encouraging other students to participate and learn from one another. Finally, Avery is an intellectual and independent student who is consistently looking for opportunities for success outside of the classroom. During her first five months of learning Chinese, she used lunch and extracurricular time to learn Chinese songs and participate in the New Years performance with the Asian community. Her beautiful singing voice and clear pronunciation electrified the audience (they couldn’t help but sing along!) and received a thundering applause. Avery is an outstanding and accomplished student and inspirational young person.”

“It gives me great pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for my violin and viola student whom I hold in the highest regard. Avery is a very bright and intelligent student. She possesses a quick mind that can grasp new information and challenges with apparent ease. She is not intimidated by new and sometimes difficult areas of technique and will strive successfully to overcome these hurdles, maintaining her ever-cheery and positive disposition despite the new demands.

Avery obviously loves music and shows great passion and enthusiasm for opportunities to perform and be involved in musical projects, and I am sure that her positivity and enthusiasm are a great asset along with her highly professional attitude and disposition.

Avery possesses many qualities that, I believe, are essential for any musician: humility, passion, empathy and an inquiring mind. All qualities that, applied to any endeavor, will yield great rewards. I offer the highest recommendation for Avery Davis and I believe she will be a great asset to any student body.”

“I met Avery Davis and her family approximately 6 years ago when her parents and 3 siblings joined our Quaker Meeting. I have known her especially well in the last 3½ years as she matured into a thoughtfully independent, intellectually gifted, and socially responsible young woman. She is remarkable in so many ways: socially adept, genuinely concerned for the welfare of others, warm and approachable, scientifically oriented, and dedicated to self-directed learning activities to improve the lives of less fortunate children in our community.

As the head of our Peace and Social Justice Committee, I worked closely with Avery for 3 ½ years as she became an informal and formal leader of our Youth Committee. We sponsored multiple student service projects with a local community group, La Fuerza Unidas of Long Island, which offers quality afterschool care to immigrant elementary school children. We partnered with La Fuerza to offer a Mentoring Program. Avery was one of our first mentors to several children helping them afterschool with homework.
Over summer break, Avery decided independently to propose and craft an active, sequential set of 11 Science Labs. Herein she created and implemented an experiential approach to teaching young children science in an age-appropriate manner! She and her siblings taught the rigors of scientific method in her well-designed, hands on labs. Students learned the nomenclature of hypothesis formulation and testing as they engaged in multiple exciting experiments. Students experienced both the discipline and excitement of science, which was Avery’s primary goal! Girls and boys worked together in small learning groups as lab partners as Avery created a gender neutral, supportive learning environment. Parents began to come early to watch their children engage in active scientific inquiry. It was truly remarkable to observe. As a former teacher of young children, I was so excited to observe what Avery was able to create on her own.
Now, Avery is taking her thoughtful self-directed, educational science experiment to the next level, appropriate for potentially large scale, geographically dispersed distribution in the pandemic remote learning environment. She decided to provide Science Labs again to the La Fuerza children in a way that is consistent with Covid19’s new demands for exciting, hands on, distanced learning for young disadvantaged children. To this end, Avery is seeking the advice of educators experienced in the design and delivery of effective cross-cultural, cross-locational learning programs to promote meaningful dialogue and understanding across social groups.

In my opinion and experience, Avery Davis is a unique human being who has both the discipline and excitement to change the way young disadvantaged children learn the scientific method via careful remote, structured experiences. Avery is personally motivated by her high ethical standards, genuine and kind concern for others, and enormous capacity for effective intellectual achievement at a very young age. She has that rare balance of clear intellectual ability and genuine concern for improving social justice for children in difficult circumstances that allows her to understand and ameliorate the lives of others. She designed her lab activities to be consistent with the new demands of today’s learning environment without having a formal education background.

As a consultant and coach to cross-cultural, global organizations for 30+ years, I have worked with managers and executives, both male and female. I recognize in Avery the skills, values, and genuine dedication required to make a significant contribution to the lives of others. In recognition of her independent thought, deep personal interest in education and innovation to level the playing field, as well as her self-directed thoughts and concerns make her the ideal recipient of many fine awards, including the Gold Award from the Girl Scouts. She will continue to amaze and delight us all for many years to come!”

“I am writing this letter of recommendation on behalf of Avery Davis, one of my top protégés in the Gemini Youth Orchestras program. I have worked with Avery in this capacity since 2016. Avery reflects a professionalism and maturity of one well beyond her years, a result of a thoughtful, well-balanced upbringing. Her high level of performance and musicianship is complemented by her genuine sense of humility and caring.

As the Executive Musical Director of both the Repertory and String Orchestras, I have witnessed Avery’s growth and the resulting impact it has had on the success of the ensembles. It was evident upon her enrollment at GYO that Avery demonstrated the advanced skill set of someone given an effective formal training at an early age. A student of the Suzuki Method, it was clear that she possessed a foundation of excellence, enabling her to understand and apply the mature principles of ensemble playing rather expediently and organically. As such, she elevated to Principal positions almost immediately. Currently, Avery is the Concertmaster or Principal Violin 1 of the GSO, as well as Principal Viola of the GRO.
In fact, her contribution to the Gemini Repertory Orchestra is a testament to her selfless, supportive nature. Though she has already graduated from this group, Avery recognizes the importance of a valuable opportunity, not only to gain further experience regarding her viola playing, but to serve as a role model to the younger students. Inevitably, the example she sets raises the level of the entire ensemble.
As a music director and educator, I cannot advocate enough the importance of the contribution of a student such as Avery – I am truly grateful. Avery Davis is without question a perfect fit for any educational institution wishing to perpetuate a high standard of principles and morals, as well as academic success. She embodies a complete sense of education, demonstrating a desire for growth that transcends the boundaries of recognized academia.
